I remember the day I met John Bowling who had a big wad of tobacco chew in his mouth as he walked around in his jeans and tee shirt at the Wayne County Airport. He walked up to me as I was waxing my airplane for a casual conversation. He never acted above anybody as I asked him what he did. He informed me he made stump cutters and owned a company called Rayco Manufacturing. We became great friends as I watched him build his company into a substantial operation that allowed him to fly around on his private jet and do whatever he felt like.
Faline Jones started a company called Cat’s Meow that makes wood collectibles in Wooster Ohio. I rented her the other half of the duplex I was living in and owned at the time. I watched her build that company from an idea in a basement into a large international operation admired by millions. What drives individuals like there wasn’t the money. It was developing their company from a vision they had into meeting the needs of the customers they would have in the future.
I remember being amazed at both of these individuals built large factories from the ground up. Although money didn’t drive either of them it definitely followed as they struggled to meet the demands of large customer growth.
Now for a few common characteristics, I believe drives success. The first is that real success never copies anybody. Always be open to new ways and processes that help you improve. Let your passion drive your success rather than money. What you are passionate about will result in the financial success you desire. Finally, never place limits on your possible achievements. If you don’t believe you can you never will.
